22. Jean Lafitte-Pirate and War Hero
New Orleans is one of the most haunted cities in the world. Enshrouded in mystery, voodoo, and magic of all kinds, it is no wonder that all sorts of spirits supposedly call this place home. One of the many ghosts that can be found in the French Quarter is that of French pirate Jean Lafitte. He and his brother Pierre were on the wrong side of the law for most of their lives smuggling goods in and out of the country. Jean became a household name when he helped Andrew Jackson defend New Orleans during the War of 1812. Jean now makes appearances in one of the oldest buildings on Bourbon Street, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop. He never speaks or interacts with anyone, but his mysterious figure has been seen standing in the shadows watching the patrons who enter.
