17. Donald Trump Was a Member of the Reform Party
The Reform Party was begun by Ross Perot and appealed to populist voters who are disillusioned with “politics as usual” by relying on “big tent politics.” Big tent politics refers to attracting voters from a range of views by appealing to their grievances rather than to a shared ideology. He even ran for president in 2000 on the Reform Party ticket, but he soon left the party, citing that “So the Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani. This is not company I wish to keep.”
