In 2011, Trump made some public speculations about making a bid for the 2012 presidential election. He even spoke at the Conservative Political Action Committee in February of that year, but in May, he announced that he would not run for president. At the time, many people did not take his presidential ambitions seriously and instead saw him as a spokesman for the Republican party.
