3. An Unexploded WW2 RAF Bomb in a Berlin Construction Site
Just as recently as April 2018, a 1,100-pound WW2-era bomb was found, leading to the evacuation of an entire one-mile area of downtown Berlin. The 70-year-old bomb, most likely dropped by a British bomber during the war, was found just north of the city’s central train station. They evacuated as many as 12,000 people, and the city estimates that there are roughly another 3,000 bombs in Berlin. In fact, unexploded weapons are so common that the city offers a team of free researchers to examine old aerial photos and data to determine if the property was bombed in the past.
