While Abraham Lincoln grew up extremely poor, his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, grew up in a wealthy slave-owning family. Mary Todd was born in Lexington, Kentucky, to Elizabeth and Robert Todd. Mary’s father was a bank and one of the richest men in the town.
