35. George Frideric Handel
George Frederic Handel wrote one of the most famous compositions of church music, Messiah, which is still performed regularly hundreds of years after its composition. At the time, most vocal arrangements were performed in Italian or Latin, but Handel broke this norm when he composed Messiah in English. He was born in Germany but moved to England, where Handel became the director of the Royal Academy of Music. In addition to his English-language works, he composed about 45 operas in Italian, as well as works that were entirely orchestral without vocal parts.
