31. Spielberg Was Fascinated by World War II
As an amateur producer in his teens, Steven became preoccupied with World War II, particularly with the sense of adventure and the heroism that emerged from it. He would go to the library to find raw footage from the front lines, and then create characters with stories that fit right in with the action. The infamous director used this method to develop amateur World War II movies for his friends and family. When he was 13, he won a prize for a 40-minute World War II film that he shot with his dad’s camera.
