59. Assisting in Developing the British Colonies
John Cabot is best known for traveling to North America with the support of Henry VII of England. Not only did this voyage put Cabot into the history books, but it is also the earliest known European voyage along the North American coast after the Norse visited Vinland. Cabot continued to explore the world, focusing on Bristol. Unfortunately, on his first voyage to that area, Cabot needed to return due to a lack of supplies. However, he didn’t give up and headed toward Ireland in the late 1400s. Cabot assisted in the development of the British colonies during these adventures.
