56. Needed a Pardon from the King
Sir Walter Raleigh is probably best known for his seat among the government offices in England. He was the Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard in the late 1500s and the Lord Warden of the Stannaries from 1584 to 1603. However, Raleigh was more than an English statesman. He was also a writer, soldier, and inspirational explorer. A couple of his most famous voyages are his trips to Guiana, receiving a pardon from the king so he could complete his second exploration to Venezuela in search of El Dorado. Accused of treason, Raleigh was executed in 1618.
