Jimmy Carter’s Speech Was Mistranslated So Badly, It Made Him Sound Like a Pervert
In 1977, President Jimmy Carter visited Poland. When he made a speech, his translator mistranslated many of his statements in an extreme way. The translator claimed that President Carter said, “I left the United States, never to return,” and that he “was happy to grasp at Poland’s private parts.” Obviously, this was humiliating. So this translator was fired. During the rest of this trip, he hired a new translator. There was just one problem. The translator couldn’t understand Carter’s accent. So he refused to translate anything he was saying. So unfortunately, he was never able to redeem himself in front of the Polish people.
