16. Marlene Dietrich
Marlene Dietrich was born in Germany but escaped to America and became a citizen against Hitler’s orders to return. She knew she was fleeing a dangerous situation and risked her life by performing for the American troops on the front lines of World War II. Her perfectly coiffed hair, doe-like eyes, and striking red lipstick definitely stood out in the black and white films, and Dietrich had no problems belting out a tune, especially if it lowered the morale of the German soldiers. For her work, she received the Medal of Freedom, which is the highest honor a civilian could receive.
