4. Mulan’s Father Is Too Old To Serve
Fa Zhou, her father, already fought in a previous war. Though not feeble, he is old and walks with a cane. In the scene, after he accepts the draft notice, he puts on his armor and takes up his sword to practice.
But wielding the sword is too much for him, and he falls to the ground. Mulan witnesses this scene while hiding behind a pillar and knows that she must do something. There is no other man in the family who can enlist in the army, but she cannot let her father go. He will certainly die.
