5. Mulan Decides To Enlist In His Place
In the middle of the night, Mulan uses her father’s sword to cut off her long hair and tie it up the way that men wore their hair. She then puts on his armor and takes his sword and conscription notice. She saddles up his horse and rides to the camp where the conscripts were to meet.
When her parents and grandmother wake up, they discover that she left in her father’s place. Her father decides not to go after her because if he reveals that she is a woman who enlisted in the army, she will be killed.
