The Civil War Started and Ended on the Same Man’s Property At Two Different Locations

America’s Civil War has gone down in history as the nation’s deadliest conflict. It was fought between 1861 to 1865. Believe it or not, the starting and ending point of the war both took place on the property of one man. The first battle was fought on the land owned by Wilmer McLean just outside of Manassas, Virginia. After this happened, Wilmer was understandably shaken up about the whole thing. He decided that it might be a good idea to move further out into the country, to a new property in Appomattox, Virginia. Wilmer thought he escaped the war… Until Four years later, General Lee surrendered to General Grant in Mr. McLean’s house in Appomattox. This was not planned at all. It was a complete coincidence that both the start and the end of the Civil War happened on the same man’s property.
