The Who Concert Disaster

On December 3, 1979, The Who was performing a concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio. The concert sold out with 18,348 tickets. On the day of the concert, many of these people had been waiting outside for hours waiting for the show to start. Instead of opening all of the doors, the employees only unlocked one set of two doors to the far-right of the stadium. This was taking an incredibly long time for thousands of people to walk through. Off in the distance, people could hear a soundcheck happening, and assume that they were missing the actual concert. This caused the crowd to surge forward and people rushed in a panic to get to the concert before they missed it. It resulted in 11 people getting trampled, and 26 other people were seriously injured.
